 2023 Preview 


       Brindlee Mountain finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Brindlee Mountain finished sixth in Class 3A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Lions won as many games as in any season since 2014. The Lions have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Lions have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Brindlee Mountain averaged scoring just 11.2 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.5 points a game.

       The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-17 record. Since 2010, the Brindlee Mountain football program has struggled with a record of 12-117.

       Over the past 17 seasons, Brindlee Mountain has not won much with a record of 16-153. Their 10.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 3A and 394th in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time.




       The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Joshua Bailey as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Bailey comes from Huntsville where he was an assistant football coach and the JV girls basketball coach.

       The Lions enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       The Lions will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just 2 wins last year, Brindlee Mountain will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

       The Lions open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Cherokee on Friday, August 25 at Lions Den. Last year the Cherokee Indians finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region eight. The Indians closed out the regular season with a loss to Hackleburg by a score of 50-8.

       Brindlee Mountain and Cherokee have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Lions have a 1-1-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2022 with Brindlee Mountain winning by a score of 26-20.

      

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
